[UPDATED: WEDNESDAY JULY 3RD 2013 @ 2:09 PM ET]

As if we didn’t have enough to worry about on this 4th of July holiday with all the flooding that is occurring today across the metro Atlanta area & north & central Georgia. SPC says there is a slight chance of a TORNADO or two to form later today into your Thursday morning across much of GA!

According to the latest models and forecast, right now it looks like eastern AL & western & southwestern GA & northwest FL have the best chance of a few tornadoes as a weak tropical low moves in from the gulf, much like a small tropical storm only weaker. Again the main threats today into your Friday will be flash flooding. However with the SPC now placing much of GA in a “Slight Risk” area, damaging winds, hail, dangerous lightning and even an isolated tornado can not be ruled out.

Right now im thinking the tornado threat is really slim in the Atlanta area, based on the rain cooled air across our area. It has dropped the temps this afternoon into the 60s and 70s! However, if we get a break in the rain, and any heating accures, we could see some stronger storms later tonight into your 4th of July.

[4TH OF JULY EVENTS & FORECAST IN ATLANTA]

As of this posting it looks like the Peachtree Road race tomm morning in Atlanta could be very wet, so be aware of that and street flooding if your headed out to that event early in the morning.

We may catch a break late tomm evening so hopefully a few fireworks can go off tomm night but chances of that happening across metro Atlanta is 30-40%.
